I still think it’s the best thing Charleton Heston ever did. So real. Could smell the sweat. He never talked about it. Swept it under his resume rug, I guess, in shame, once he aligned himself with the political rightists. But wow! the tears we shed with Edgar G. watching the deer, the stream, the flowers, the ocean as Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony queued up to high gear. I was depressed, sickened and exalted all in 90 minutes. Now that’s entertainment! Wished I’d seen it with you at El Centro than with my high boyfriend!

Before the news on KFI Los Angeles said something on a talk show about a fight with his wife – I called it! Yessir, why would anyone be driving away fast from home at 2:30 unless it was a trip to the 24 hour drugstore for Nyquil or a fight??? The National Enquirer-sounding story was that she chased him out of the house with a golf club having had a hissy fit over another woman. She was hitting the car with the golf club, etc. when he crashed. Then she used the said club to rescue him!!?? Makes for great screwball comedy, aka Philadelphia Story opening scene with Hepburn breaking a (sigh) glorious (now vintage) club over her knee.

Ohmygosh! We were watching that old debut of Sarah Jessica Parker “Flight of the Navigator” a couple days ago. The spaceship robot does great PeeWee imitations. I don’t think I can stay up late enough for the Tonight Show. I’m still on a play house schedule.

Attempted to read the new moving banner headline. You got me with seed broadcasting. I always laughed at trucks whose companies were advertised on their doors, with 1990s names like BlahBlah Solutions. I think you’ve captured all those catch words in one, not so easy, clone tape.

Nana’s missing middle finger joint was so endlessly fascinating. I went on a long journey with a friend today – she raised her hand and i noticed she had a finger missing! But it had been so cleverly removed surgically as to have no space between the remaining 3 fingers.
One thing, opposable is not disposable.
There were twins back there???

My students, who, if they just did their homework instead of thinking up excuses (takes about the same amount of time but not nearly as creative an experience) loved the story of the tree man! It was particularly impressive on the minds of my 13-15 year old males who are already weakening their livers with all sorts of concoctions. Some getting expelled for their efforts. Life is all about using our energy – even if it is just lifting a ci., a bottle, or an instrument – as we wish. It’s up to us. Glad you practice. Glad you don’t drink. I must confess I am a clearer person just getting off Cherry Pepsi 32 oz. a day. Gotta go practice Schubert lieder, my new old thing.

Had to read this just now. Why? As it turns out, I am trying to get all of my little notebooks with lines of ideas here, whole pages there, transformed into computerized versions for ease of organization. I get the part about remembering to bring the pad and pencil. I ahve so many all over the place, and then, about once a month, they have to be re-distributed because they ALL wind up in the wrong place – anywhere but where they can be pulled out and used when the brain comes up with something that will be gone in less time than it takes to pop a bubble. Gum or soap.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could harness all that question/answer energy and put it to good information gathering action – we maybe could end child slavery, chil porn, child abuse – and let the kids go to school where they could learn to ask and maybe answer any number of questions.
But no – we seem as a world to want to protect our stupidity from the eyes of others on facebook!! only a select few that WE choose can be our audience for self-revealing through nonsense. Don’t get me wrong – I enjoy the facebook too. And it DOES cross my mind that friends who aren’t “Friended” yet would see my mindless comments. I should maybe apply the time spent to the worthier causes listed earlier!
Another thing – I hate feeling distrusting NOW of something I championed as superior years ago – Google the Search Engine – to my students. It’s just SOOO bloomin’ big now and monopoly-headed/minded services are scary to our free speech.

How do you remember things like RB’s watermelon colors? Brings back a flood of memories, all of which are tinged with green, like the flow of the algae filled waters of the rivers we knew as South Texas children, between our toes, under them…Wenesdays are always Orange to me. Thursdays red. Tuesdays pale turquoise. Mondays bright yellow. Sundays are white and Saturdays are sky-blue. We don’t know why that is, but i think some of us have this synergist brain wiring issue where days also have textures associated with them. Wed,/Thurs are my autumn days. It’s as if they exist in their best garb when they occur in the autumn. Maybe the orange/red color associations stem from that.

I felt the same as I was looking over the lyrics to his songs earlier. It had been soooo long since I had heard them, just hearing snippets and samples took me back to awkward youthful moments. Memories (again with the remember motif, sheesh) reasserted amidst the newer intellectual and emotional flotsam and jetsam as what I guess is my current aesthetic sensibilities. Still, I’ve got to admit some of the material I found ignorable if hardly bearable back then actually meant more musically these days. But overall, the lyrics do visit inanity planet as frequent fliers. That’s pretty much the nature of rock’n'roll, oh, baby, baby, bay, bee, yeah, do you know what I mean, it’s gonna be alright, uh, huh. I was disappointed to learn today that he was submitting himself to Primal Scream Therapy, which explains a few things, but reveals once again his lifelong tendency toward edgy, experimental and even trendy approaches to understanding his life, life in general. I feel pretty strongly this lack of understanding made him the artist he was as he expressed his explorations, discoveries and disappointments, giving voice to our similar experiences, articulating much of what we felt in the contemporary zeitgeist. The thing is, we don’t feel that way these days. Knowing now what we didn’t know then… it’s just not as relevant. The easy answer about this new development in your personality is that you are getting old. But that’s the easy answer. John Lennon would have turned sixty-nine a few weeks ago, like we discussed back then. Whether or not he is or is not alive, his music has absolutely no relevance to him in this moment.

I heard John Lennon’s Christmas song today and realized with a shock that it’s quite an inane song. I don’t ever remember thinking that about it before. I wonder what that says about me! I’ve always been a John Lennon fan but I have to say that there are several of his songs that just don’t appeal to me any more the way they used to. I’m trying to understand how I feel about this new development in my personality.

Cool, or should I say, warm, tie-ins. Railroad ties, and did you know Burlington Coat Factory sells ties? They should be located near the railroad depot. But those, as you so poignantly pointed out, are mere memories as well – most having been turned into tourist shops or trendzy eateries. City by the Hay may be safer than the Bay one, what with its bridge cables snappily coming into your car window.

Heck, I’ve been telling my geography classes about this thing for years. The Great Rift! Hah! But it IS going to be great. Love the idea of seeing it while it’s little, so our progeny won’t believe us! The “Great” thing about it right now is for all the paleo-anthropologists who have been able to find early man fossils by the hundreds in its diatomaceous earthness. And Ethiopians! Did you know (according to my daughter) they are, by survey, the happiest people on earth? Content with life. Wow. Many are Christian. Must be some of the good ones.

A child friendly spooky story. It’s so NOT Stephen King. This could be a tale and I love the name. Vesparo. I have a teacher friend who went to Paris a few years ago, and, since she’s an art teacher, took dozens of Notre Dame gargoyle photos. I am enchanted! and will look for such creatures perched in unlikely, homey places around this scary town.

Keeping track of things I like that idea. What about all my just the right color bobby pins? All my favorite lost socks on the dark side of the moon where the dryer vent sends them via some worm hole only known to appliances?
Yeah, I am enthralled by history and its records of how great these new inventions were to changing everything – just from the mind of one person who took the time to follow through on an idea, instead of “oh yawn” I’ll get to it later – or maybe not., Nobody wouuld really care anyway. They have stars to use like people have been doing for thousands of years.”
Kinda like my procrastinating my book, which will of course change the world if only I’d stop bloggin.
